Scott Speed is the first American driver in Formula One since Michael Andretti drove for McLaren in 1993. Formula One, the preeminent open-wheel motor racing series, is among the most widely followed sports in the world. Scott makes his Formula One debut in 2006, racing for the new team Scuderia Toro Rosso (Team Red Bull). Previously, Scott proved himself a formidable racer with impressive records in other open-wheel series, including the highly competitive British Formula 3000 and GP2 Series. Scott is a 23-year-old Manteca, California native who won his first national karting championship in 1995 at the age of 12.
